What We Believe

LGBTQIA+ open and affirming
This means that all LGBTQIA+ folks are fully embraced and welcomed as part of our community.

Presbyterian
We are a part of the Presbyterian USA denomination which is a part of the reformed tradition. If you are familiar with Presbyterian churches you might notice some familiar things in our worship, music, etc. But we work hard to make UKirk feel like home for everyone. You do not need to be Presbyterian, or even a Christian to find your place at UKirk.

Eating Together
We have dinner together every Wednesday night at 7pm as well as lunch on Mondays at 11:30. We believe that at the table, God’s grace is tangibly present and reminds us that we are embodied creatures in need of love and community.

Communion
We share communion, aka the Lord’s Supper or the Eucharist, every Wednesday night during worship at UKirk. We practice open communion, which means anyone is allowed to partake if they choose.

Everything Else
We are a community in conversation and we all have something to learn from one another. So bring all of who you are into the conversation. Bring your doubts, questions, uncertainty, concerns, celebrations and everything in between. You are welcome here.

More Light Presbyterian Campus Group

We are a More Light Presbyterian Campus Group. Our desire to authentically invite people into this community of faith has led us to partner with More Light Presbyterians, to help us more fully and faithfully invite, welcome and include people from the LGBTQ+ community as we live our vision of a boundless community of faith here at UTK.

As a More Light Campus Group we fully endorse and believe in the mission of More Light Presbyterians:
Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make the Church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society.
