Seminary Light meets on Mondays during the academic year at 11:45 pm and is open to anyone who is interested. We gather for lunch and a one-hour discussion on challenging theological topics led by pastors, educators, and lay leaders from the Presbytery of East Tennessee as well as Interfaith leaders in our community. The goal is to help attendees exercise the capacity to critically consider experiences and ideas through the lens of faith in order to form and articulate beliefs about God, the world, and humanity.
Every Wednesday evening during the academic year we gather at 7 pm for food and fellowship followed by a casual worship service with communion. We believe that coming together for worship is essential for our spiritual nourishment and it boosts camaraderie among all those who attend. UWorship follows a traditional Presbyterian order of worship with a sermon from our campus minister and music led by our Worship Intern. It’s casual, it’s welcoming, and everyone is invited.
Every other week we gather in the sunroom for an in-depth Bible study. Each school year we choose a different focus and theme for the study. Rev. Tim Reynolds, pastor of Second Presbyterian Church – Knoxville, helps facilitate this Bible study for us alongside the campus minister.
Every other week we gather to discuss a book of choice, purchased by UKirk for each student who wishes to participate. Books for this group are often focused on racial injustices, interfaith relations, and social justice. This is a very laid back program with room for students to talk as much or as little as they would like.
